When buying a home insurance you will have to make a home inventory to record your valuable possessions.

This inventory will contain every item that you want to be covered by the insurance policy.

You should include any high value item in your house.

You might think that you can do this in 10 minutes but if you think better about it you’ll soon realize that it will take you some more time.

You should allow at least one full day to create your home inventory, your house will be a mess while you’re at it, hence you’ll have to spend a lot of time putting the house back in order: weekends are perfect for making a home inventory.

People usually have two different approaches to create a good home inventory, both of them are equally effective.

The first method consists in creating a list for each room, so you’ll have several list of valuable items grouped per room.

The other method consist just in grouping objects, so you’ll have groups of items: three TVs, two digital cameras, a laptop, two stereo systems etc

There are excellent softwares that will help you make your home inventory quickly and will keep track of everything in your house. Using such a software you can attach photos of every item, so you’ll be able to see which model the TV was as well as the stereo system and any other items.

Collectify is an excellent home inventory software, absolutely worth buying.

Using Collectify Home Inventory Software will also speed up the process of filing a claim as the software will create flexible exports to print or email.
